IGU commission renovated for the years 2016–2020

From the “Commission of Global Information Society” to “Commission on the Geography of Information, Innovation and Technology”
Tommi Inkinen
p. 149

The new commission has been elected in International Geographical Union (IGU) 34th Geographical Congress at Peking. The chairmanship moved from Prof. Mark Wilson (Michigan State University, USA) to Prof. Tommi Inkinen (University of Turku, Finland) and a new commission board was nominated. The new commission board includes Prof. Kenji Hashimoto (Waseda University, Japan) who is the vice-chair and Prof. Philippe Vidal (Université du Havre, France) who is the executive secretary. The other board members are Prof. Stefano di Vita (Politecnico di Milano, Italy) ; Prof. Rein Ahas (University of Tartu, Estonia) ; Prof. Aharon Kellerman (University of Haifa, Israel) ; Prof. Andreas Koch (University of Salzburg, Austria) ; Prof. Emmanouil Tranos (University of Birmingham, UK) ; Prof. Tan Yigitcanlar (Queensland University of Technology, Australia) ; and the previous chair Mark Wilson. The commission changed its name from the “Commission of Global Information Society” to “Commission on the Geography of Information, Innovation and Technology” indicating the joint research interests among technology and communications geographers with researchers doing innovation and technology studies. I welcome all geographers who are working on telecommunications, technology, Internet and innovations to join our renovated commission in the upcoming years.

Chairman: Tommi Inkinen (tommi.inkinen@utu.fi)

Executive secretary: Philippe Vidal (philippe.vidal@univ-lehavre.fr)
