Visualization is the use of spatial graphic representations to transform data, information and knowledge into easy visual analyses, explorations or explanations, so as to increase the perception or understanding of large corpora. Such a display is a specific method of communication through graphs and spatial forms between users and data. It relies on mathematical and statistical methods through different approaches to graphic metaphors, but it exceeds because we never lose sight of the data context and of the relationships, such as they are defined by Stuart Card, "the use of computerized representations, interactive, visual abstract data to amplify knowledge "[CARD et al., 99]. Historically, those geographers who consider that physical, personal and informational exchanges between different locations explain observed geographic diversity, have used the power of visualization to decode the "spatial interactions" (Ullmann, 1954).

In a context marked by the digital humanities and by the recent developments which result from the publication of institutional data (open data) and business data (big data), for which there is a growing need and interest, this area of explanation essentially incorporates concepts from various disciplines with transdisciplinary approaches that allow the researcher in human and social sciences to add new facets to the object of study. Through more efficient and interactive visualization tools, new avenues of research open and involve diverse applications produced by these emerging disciplines (data visualization, information visualization, knowledge visualization ...) SHS vizualisation renews the methodological issues in the sense that such an approach invites us to reflect on the algorithmic (Manovich, 2003) but also helps to show how, when such scientific questions are treated through that method, they produce new knowledge and to what a degree they generally affect the scientific field.

Today the visualization of data, information and knowledge applies to case studies Territories, ICT and society. More than ever viewing is a data representation element, but it is involved in decision-making and knowledge management (visual analytics). All these factors point to a visual literacy and visual culture (visual literacy at).

This issue calls for methodological articles, but also for articles presenting how to apply these methods on case studies Territories / or ICT and / or society in the following areas:

Viewing Social Networks

Visualization and Geolocation

Open Data Visualization and environmental and urban

Visualization and Geographic Information System

View and Text Analysis

Visual analytics, decision and information literacy

In addition, articles on the representation of the Internet and ICT will be welcome, particularly in the context of case studies.

Are expected: scientific contributions, projects or research positions and descriptive summaries to have an overview of current experiences, challenges and viewing information related research projects.

Themes

Themes (not exhaustive) are:

Social Networks viewing

Visualization and Geolocation

Open Data Visualization and environmental and urban

Visualization and Geographic Information System

View and Text Analysis

Visual analytics, decision and information literacy

Languages

The official languages are French and English.

Schedule and guide the submission of articles and notes

End April 2015 - Statement of Interest in summary, about 10 lines - Authors should indicate: name / first name, title, institutional affiliation (if any names of co-authors in alphabetical order), contact emails, pursuant to Article title, keywords, summary of the proposal (about 10 lines) to the following address: coleta2005@yahoo.fr

Mid-July 2015 - Deadline for receipt of the proposed texts. Authors may submit their proposals post to the following address: coleta2005@yahoo.fr

Authors may submit three types of communications:

  • scientific articles (15 to 20 pages, including figures). They may enroll in one or more of the above routes.

  • scientific notes (5-10 pages). This section contains research notes that have a problem, methodology or innovative. These texts should provide a useful complement to the theme of this issue.

  • Briefing notes (1-4 pages). Informative value, they briefly present the feedback and environmental data dissemination systems over the Internet. They will then describe the history of the projects, their technical and organizational characteristics and prospects. The aim is to show the variety of online sharing forms that thrive today: environmental observatories, international databases, geographical data infrastructure, download portals, etc.

October 15, 2015 - Early notification (acceptance, improvements and additions requested or refusal) and back double blind evaluations to all authors - After double blind review by members of the scientific review board (or possibly external experts ), notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent, accompanied in the first case the technical specifications for publication.

End November 2015 - Deadline for receipt of corrected and final versions. The text of the communication must be received by the program committee in its corrected and finalized version. The authors rely on the scientific editor of all documents to be published electronically in Word or OpenOffice format. The texts must not exceed 70 000 signs. Illustrations, photographs or graphics can be in separate files, their location must then be clearly indicated in the text in question. You will find complete instructions online: http://netcom.revues.org/956

End December 2015 – Publication.
